Black levels are good as long as you keep the brightness level down - I keep mine set at 54, backlight 86, and the picture is still very bright with good blacks.
I find the function DynaLight be useless. Basically you turn the backlight down a darker vision of the deepest blacks, but the result is a large picture dimmer. I'm not a fan of dynamic backlight on any TV, and Toshiba are very slow to adjust, making it quite annoying. I have mine turned off, major problem.
Sound of Toshiba 37AV502R HDTV: Sound is not great but not terrible. I use a stereo receiver so it's not a problem. Variable audio output lets you control the volume through the TV when the receiver is connected.
I never noticed the hum a few others.
Stand of Toshiba 37AV502R HDTV: The stand is a lot more than most cases. My parents are 26 "Toshiba and used the position size, so it might be a little 'small. However, it would take a little' power to the top of the TV. I'm not worried.
Other Features of Toshiba 37AV502R HDTV: The theater arrangements useful in many situations, especially changing the SD sources without center is distorting the image. As mentioned above, is really useless feature DynaLight, but this goes for any brand with dynamic backlight. Just turn off.
The best advice is to watch TV in person with HD source connected. For the price it is a great device on brand-name. In many ways, running out of the cheaper brands. In some categories, however, lags behind.
UPDATE of Toshiba 37AV502R HDTV: After just two months after the TV developed a dead pixel. The Toshiba customer service representative told me that "one" dead pixel is not sufficient for warranty service, and pixels should not be less than 5 or 6 dead all appeared normal viewing. Are you kidding ???!!!! Totally unacceptable. I am disappointed that the Toshiba brand.
